Convocation

GLASS

On Saturday, 23rd April 2016 history was made as the first convocation of Rhema University took place. The Rhema University auditorium was tastefully decorated. At exactly 10am the convocating graduates dressed in the resplendent academic gowns lined up for photograph and ready for procession into the auditorium. Soon, the academics, Vice chancellors of various universities led by the Vice Chancellor of Rhema University, Prof. Onwudike, and the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Ogwo E. Ogwo, got ready for the procession. Meanwhile, the auditorium had been filled with distinguished guests – the royal fathers led by Eze Ikonne; the Naval band from Naval Base Owerrinta were also there to provide fanfare, and to crown it all, the Chancellor-designate joined the procession. Amidst special music, the academic procession into the auditorium began – what a beauty and glory to behold.
As the procession ended, the business of the day began. It was indeed an academic programme. The Registrar of Rhema University, Mr Sampson E. Akpan, invited the V.C., Prof. Onwudike, to constitute the assembly for convocation and for installation of the chancellor. That being done, the President of Living Word Ministries who had hitherto been Chancellor- designate was officially and formally installed as the first Chancellor of Rhema University. A special academic gown was put on him and – the best of all – he was honoured with a doctorate degree ie D.Sc honoris Causa. Prior to that, a citation on the chancellor had been read by the university orator, Ihuoma Zan Thomas. The citation chronicled the life, transformation and achievement of Bro Emma Okorie. In recognition of his contribution to education and service to humanity, he was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science. By that elevated status, the Chancellor then constituted the assembly for the award of first degrees on the graduates. A total of 42 graduates received their degree certificates out of which three (3) had first class. Special awards were given to deserving graduates who distinguished themselves in academics in their various disciplines.
The convocation was a superb outing, splendid in every respect and one that will linger in the memory of all that attended.
